A Clinical Study on Submandibular Gland Tumor




Abstract
We analizyed 37 patients of the submandibular gland tumors who had visited from 1986 to 1992, retrospectively. Histopathologically, benign tumors were 20 cases and malignant tumors were 17cases.
In cases of benign tumors, all of the chief complaints were painless mass in submandibular area and histopathologically, pleomorphic adenoma was 18cases(90%). All patients were received operation, as treatment and no one has recurred.
In cases of malignant tumors, chief complaints were frequently painless mass in submandibular area. The most common age group was 6th decades(7cases, 41.2%). Histopathologically, adenoid cystic carcinoma was most common which was 7cases(41.1%).
According to the criteria of the AJCC classification. Stages were as followings ; stage¥°; 1case¥±; 3cases, stage¥²; 2cases, stage¥³; 11cases. Distant metastasis was in 4 cases. (Korean J Otolaryngol 37 : 5, 1994)
